Tension still high in Nigeria PDF Print E-mail

Gunfire erupted yesterday in the Nigerian city of Jos as tensions remain high there. The violence sent women and children fleeing for safety in police barracks. A heavy security presence and a curfew remain and police say they have arrested more than 90 people in connection with Sunday's attacks.
The attacks were blamed on the Muslim pastoral Hausa community.

Meanwhile the Archbishop of Nigeria, Reverende Benjamin Kwashi says he does not know who is behind the attacks. He says religion is not the problem and that the people of Jos are coming face to face in a confrontation with Satan. Other analysts have agreed that this is In fact a struggle between ethnic groups for fertile land and resources in the region known as Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

 
US Israeli reprimand a smokescreen PDF Print E-mail

The United States has apparently wrapped Israel over the knuckles for the continued settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank. The building of 1600 Jewish homes has also been criticised by UN secretary general Ban Ki moon. The US vice-president Joe Biden says the continued Israeli expansion makes it difficult for negotiations to go on between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

The talks being mediated by the US is however seen as a smokescreen for Israel to continue its invasion of the Palestinian lands. The US has vowed to continue giving its full support to Israel despite its illegal land grabs in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Israeli’s have also vowed not to hand over any part of Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

 
5 dead in Pakistani aid agency attack PDF Print E-mail

Suspected Pakistani anti-government fighters have attacked the office of a Western aid agency in Pakistan's Mansera district. A bomb went off and gunfire could be heard. At least 5 people are already dead. The identity of the casualties is not known.

 
Seven arrested for cartoonist plot PDF Print E-mail

Seven people including four men and three women have been arrested in Ireland for a plot to kill the man who drew a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) with the body of a dog.

Authorities say the arrests are part of an investigation into a "conspiracy to murder an individual in another jurisdiction".The investigation involved law enforcement agencies in the US and several European countries.

Bali bomber killed PDF Print E-mail

The man responsible for the 2002 Bali bombing in Indonesia is dead. The 39-year-old, known as Dulmatin, was killed in a police raid in Jakarta. Dulmatin was a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah and a bomb making specialist. Indonesian president, Susilo Babang Yudhoyono speaking from Australia confirmed the killing.

The US government's Rewards for Justice programme has offered a bounty of up to $10m for his capture.

US right wing Christian extremist groups growing PDF Print E-mail

The number of extremist white groups in the US is increasing at an alarming rate. This is being driven by failures and hostilities towards the Obama administration as well as the increasing propagation of conspiracy theories by parts of the mass media such as Fox News. The number has jumped nearly 250% to more than 500 with deepening ties to conservative mainstream politics.

A report by the Southern Poverty Law Centre, called Rage on the Right,  says this is a cause for grave concern.These groups are prone to violence. The SPLC notes that the rise comes as part of a deepening disillusionment with government in which just one quarter of Americans think government can be trusted. They have identified 512 groups, including "patriots" and militias, which it accuses of pushing extreme anti-government doctrines.

 
Son of Hamas founder spied for Shin Bet PDF Print E-mail

The son of one of the founding member of Hamas has worked for the Israeli intelligence group, Shin Bet. Mosab Hassan Yousef has renounced Islam and is a Chriistian. He has called the God of the Quran the biggest terrorist and that Islam teaches people to kill. Yousef added that the more a person forllows what he called God of the Quran and prophet of the Quran the closer they will come to being a terrorist.

He says his ultimate aim is to see peace between Palestinians and Israelis and that acting as a spy for Israel helped save lives. He has now released a book and is no longer active and an Israeli operative. He added that Hamas has no idea how Shin Bet operates. His father Sheik Hassan Yousef has disowned him saying his son has left the fold of Islam and collobarated with the enemies of the Palestinians.
