Despite the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) exposure to the brutalities of the forces loyal to President Bashar al Assad, they treated captured soldiers with extreme respect.
Members of the FSA captured 10 prisoners of war from the army of President Bashar Al Assad in the town of Salekeen.
The remnants of shelling are evident on the ground in this town with army tanks parked on the streets.
The town of Salakeen is one of the lands that have been taken over by the FSA.
Despite the prisoner’s gross violations of human rights and indiscriminate murders, the FSA treated the prisoners with extreme respect.
They offered the prisoners chocolates and coffee as they questioned them the reason behind supporting the Assad regime.
The commander of the captured soldiers told Cii News Darkoush that ‘a person should not bear the burden of another’ – citing a verse in that respect from the noble Quraan.
They noted that they are merely serving the army and they will not be held accountable for the wrongs of Assad.
They have been taking large swathes of territory and ensure that it becomes a safe haven for Syrian people.
Across town there was another safe house where a group of people were kept.
Among them there were soldiers with serious injuries, one of which was a soldier who had a major blow to his face.
The injury is from his right eye, to his nose extending to his ear.
A commander of the group told CIi News that they encircled a group of soldiers and told them to lay down their arms.
He then pushed some women and children as human shield in front of him and threw a grenade which injured the women and children and the shrapnel from there ripped out a part of his face.
The women and children where rushed out to Turkey for treatment.
Despite this, the FSA facilitated his treatment in the safe house.
The FSA is a rag tag bunch of locals who have taken on the might of the Syrian army.
They have been supported by army defectors and are using light arms against the war machinery of tanks and fighter jets of Assad.
