Senior South African scholar and resident Mufti at Cii Broadcasting, Abdool Kader Hoosen, explained that the most significant virtue of Arafah is the fact that every Prophet of God, from Adam (AS) to Muhammad (SAW) came to the plains of Arafah. 3 million Muslims pilgrims will gather in the same area on Thursday, in the worship of God Almighty as the annual pilgrimage reaches its climax.
According to the narration of the final Messenger, Muhammad (SAW) there was not single Nabi of Allah (prophet) who had not experienced the congregation of Arafah.
“From Nabi Adam (AS) to Mustafa Muhammed (SAW), they all went to Arafah,” the Mufti confirmed.
He further said that the Dua (prayer) excessively read by all the prophets was the Kalima of Tawhid, the fourth proclamation of faith, emphasising the oneness of Allah and delegitimising the worship of idols or other personalities.
(There is) none worthy of worship except Allah. He is only One. (There is) no partners for Him. For Him (is) the Kingdom. And for Him (is) the Praise. He gives life and causes death. And He (is) Alive. He will not die, never, ever. Possessor of Majesty and Reverence. In His hand (is) the goodness. And He (is) the goodness. And He (is) on everything powerful.)
“That is the best dua that a person should read on the Plains of Arafah. It is renewing the pledge we have with Allah,” Mufti said.
He narrated that the pious predecessor and Islamic scholar, Sufyaan Thawri, was asked on the Plains of Arafah by contemporary, Abdullah bin Mubarak: “Who is the most unfortunate person at the end of the wuqoof at Arafah?” Sufyaan Thawri replied that the most unfortunate person is the one who leaves Arafah with a negative feeling that Allah has not forgiven him.
“So our message to all the Hujaaj is: Laa taqnatu mir rahmatilla. Don’t look at our own vices and short comings. Look at the mercy of Allah. Do not become despondent or disillusioned,” Mufti said.
