South Africa will be getting new bank notes. The South African Reserve Bank has released specimens of the new notes featuring former President Nelson Mandela, which will be rolled out the end of the year.

The new notes will have similar dimensions to current notes in circulation.

Some of the features of the new notes include enhanced security features and features that will assist the visually impaired to read the notes.

Meanwhile the South African Reserve Bank said it had no plans to release a R500,00 note.

Winnie Madikizela Mandela says she is very proud that Mandela was honored in this way.

Reserve bank governor Gill Marcus says the new campaign will be rolled out at the beginning next month to educate the public.
