Yusuf Alli – Cii News (31-07-12)
A fresh pig head and images of pigs were deliberately placed on holy ground
at the future site of a Queensburgh Masjid
The Muslim community were appalled at the desecration of the area and
appealed to the community of Queenburgh to show religious tolerance.
While the area boasts many churches, since 1994 the demographics have
changed and the Muslim community has grown, therefore increasing the need
for Masaajid.
Imtiaz Rasool from the Queensburgh Islamic Society says the application for
the right to build the Masjid has been ongoing for the past ten years.
Numerous meetings were held with community members who opposed the building of a masjid in the area and a compromise was finally reached. The building of the masjid was given the green light, providing the fajr athaan was not called out on a loud speaker.
However the actions of a few have now hampered the frail agreement had
between community members. Recently there was also a threat by a passerby
that the Masjid, once completed, would be blown up.
Rasool assured Cii that the building of the masjid Would continue, despite
the actions of a few.
He urged the public to pledge their support, be it moral, or financial to the project. He directed people seeking further information on the project to
