A senior British Aalim passed away this weekend whilst in Sajdah. Moulana Ghulam Muhammad Gheewala (RA) left the world this Sunday morning in Leicester. He was in his late 80s.
According to the SunniForum website, Moulana Ghulam was one of the pioneering ulama of Leicester, who served without a wage as the first Imam of the city over 55 years ago. In the 1960′s he actively served Leicester’s first Masjid, a house on Sutherland Street, and he subsequently became the first Imam of Masjid ul Noor.
Moulana Ghulam graduated from Darul Uloom Deoband in 1947 and studied Sahih Bukhari under the tutelage of Shaykhul Islam Hadhrat Moulana Husayn Ahmad Madani (RA). He was known to be very charitable supporting various masaajid, madaris, ulama and welfare projects all over the world.
Even in his advanced age he completed well over 500 khatams of the Quran in the past 7 years alone. Individuals who knew him say he would rise regularly in the early hours of the day for ibadah, even whilst travelling.
He passed away after suhoor on Sunday whilst reciting tasbeeh and falling into sujood. May Allah Bless his soul.
