As temperatures continue to lick the bottom of the thermometre, the African Muslim Agency will combine their winter warmth efforts with feeding warm nutritious meals to under privileged communities.
AMA has extended their distributions of blankets and has merged the initiative with their Ramadhaan feeding scheme.
According to spokesperson, Imraan Amod, they decided on this because Ramadhaan falls in winter this year.
“We started shifting our focus. We are not only distributing blankets but we started looking towards Ramadhaan being around the corner- the need will be the lack of warm nutritious meals,” he said.
He said they are balancing the two initiatives out by running them concurrently.
Amod said areas of Gauteng, Free State and the KZN midlands are in desperate need for warmth as temperatures reach below freezing point.
“Where it is extremely cold and we can not understand the cold, Africa Muslim Agency is distributing blankets there,” he said.
He said while some people may find Ramadhaan this year a pleasure due to short days, some are finding it difficult because the nights are colder and longer.
“The African Muslim Agency is trying to make a difference in areas that it can through the organisations that are affiliated to us that are reaching the grass roots in different areas,” Amod said.
