The African Christian Democratic Party together with the Inkatha Freedom Party and a fringe group of the Shembe Church today marched in support of Israel. The move was prompted by proposal from the South African government to have all products made in the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank be labeled as ‘Made in occupied Palestine’ and not as ‘Made in Israel’.

The pro-Israeli groups marched in the Pretoria city centre to the Department of Trade and Industry. A memorandum was handed over. A group of Palestinian activists also conducted a flash picket alongside the march. They were forcefully pushed back by police. Some of the Palestinian supporters were threatened with arrest although they were only about 20 in number.
