Will it ever end? Racism has reared it ugly head once again and this time with vitriol and profanity blaring in full blast over the loudspeaker in a KFC outlet in Cape Town. What sounded like the national anthem Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika started in Afrikaans with: Nkosi Sikelel’… Nkosi is ‘n doos, Mandela is ‘n fokken kaffir… and so on.

Tariq Mellet told The Cape Times that he was waiting in queue at the KFC in Buitenkant Street, Gardens, when the offensive anthem was played in the family restaurant that shocked customers in the store.

Mellett said they shouted at the staff to switch it off, but this was done only after some time.

KFC’s provincial manager Craig Davids told the newspaper it had referred the query to franchisor Yum Restaurants and that he could not issue a statement until the matter had been fully investigated.
