Opinion – Sister Fadheelah – June 27, 2012

Bismillah-hirrahmaan-nirraheem

It’s with sadness and concern that I write these words.

We are living in a time of great fitna and fasaad (trials and tribulations). The Ummah is engaging in activities that were unheard of in the past. Vices like pornography, adultery, gambling and the use of drugs and alcohol has become accepted as a norm! It is a grave sin to indulge in these actions but it is an even greater sin to undermine the seriousness of these sins and justify it!

Just the other day, I heard a group of Muslim girls who attend a private school in an upmarket area say, “Oh well, we just gona hang out with friends and have a few drinks and just chill.” When they were told that its haraam to drink they simply shrugged it off by saying that everyone in our company drinks these days so why should we not drink! Shocking to say the least!

Allahummah fazna Yaa Rabb!

Likewise, I have seen with my own eyes how women who wear the full hijaab including the purdah (face veil) simply discard it when they are on holiday in places like Durban and other holiday destinations! My heart bleeds to see such desecration of the laws of Allah!

Allah is EVERYWHERE!

Allah hears and sees EVERYTHING! Allah is aware of the activities of the tiniest creature which is beneath a rock at the bottom of the deepest sea! Allahu-akbar!

We cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening around us! It is Waajib for a Muslim to enjoin what is good and to forbid what is evil! We are responsible for our neighbors – 40 doors on either side!

Wastage and extravagance is abhorred by Allah and HIS Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam! The Ummah is spending millions on disgusting things like attending concerts and shows! One such concert is the arrival of a Satanic performer on our shores! A singer called Lady Gaga! Muslims will pay exhorbitant amounts to attend a concert which will last for a few hours but the evil consequences of those few hours will leave one with a lifetime of shattered peace not only in this world but in the everlasting hereafter as well!

Muslims are frantically charging to buy tickets to go and watch a soccer match by a well known soccer team called Manchester United! Once again tens of thousands of rands will be squandered by Muslims who will go for the 90 minute game just to get a glimpse of their so called “idols” and “heroes”! Wanauzzubillah! We have made people who refuse to accept Allah as their Creator and Sustainer as our role models! How sad! May Allah forgive us!

Many of these soccer players hate Islam and Muslims, yet Muslims literally border on shirk by idolising them to a point of almost worshiping them! Let’s keep in mind that the star that you hold in such high esteem doesn’t even know that you exist!

When our youth paste posters of movie stars, sport stars, pop stars etc. on the walls of their homes and in their cupboards, it is almost as if we are creating a shrine similar to the shrines which are erected by idol worshippers ! This is dangerous to our Imaan!

Let us discourage this practice!

And whilst millions are splashed on these futile activities, we can’t spare a ten rand for someone who is in need of a loaf of bread to feed their family! Why is it that we can so happily spend on Haraam things which will bring the wrath of Allah upon us, yet we cannot spend on things that would please Allah? Have we become such ingrates towards that Being who in the first place gives us the wealth which we are squandering?

A very wealthy non muslim friend of mine found herself in a dire situation recently when the company which she was the manager of suddenly ran into financial difficulties and had sadly collapsed leaving her searching for other business opportunities! She was referred to a Muslim business man who put a mouth watering business proposal in front of her! A proposal that would earn her big money! She was curious about the nature of the business since it was generating such fantastic profits! To her shock and dismay, the man told her that he was involved in women trafficking! And this is a man who proudly walks around with the name YUSUF! My friend, being a non-muslim instantly turned down the offer saying that “I don’t need that bad KARMA in my life”! She walked away jobless but with her integrity and value system intact!

I wonder how many Muslims would do what my friend did? Muslims have become so materialistic that we are selling our souls for the material wealth of this temporary world!

Our Most Beloved Nabi Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam said something to this effect that “the downfall of this Ummah will be their love of the material wealth of this world and the fear of death”

I wonder what it is going to take for this Ummah to wake up! Allah’s warnings are many! Earthquakes, tornadoes, floods and cyclones were rarely heard of in our part of the world yet in the past few years we are witnessing these natural disasters on our doorsteps! The most recent being the tornadoes that killed several people in the Free State and Vaal Dam areas! Many more were injured and left homeless! What guarantee do we have that we will not be engulfed by one of these disasters whilst we are asleep or whilst we are involved in one of the many vices which I mentioned! Let allah not take us from this world whilst we are in a state where Allah is displeased with us! Aameen!

May Allah help and guide this ummah to the true understanding of our DEEN and May Allah save us from all kinds of FITNA

Aameen!

Thumma Aameen!!

And Allah knows Best
